General

Where is Lost and Found?
What is NRHBC's history?
What is the story of the stained glass windows inside the Worship Center?

Q. Where is Lost and Found?
A. It is located in the Records Room on the first floor between the Large and Small Atriums.

Q. What is NRHBC's history?
A. North Richland Hills Baptist Church began on February 26, 1956, as a mission sent from Richland Hills Baptist Church. From 41 in attendance that first Sunday in the North Richland Elementary School, the membership has grown to over 2,758. The church was chartered with 115 members when the first building was completed on May 20, 1956. NRHBC expanded by building a new auditorium and educational buildings, purchasing homes on Vance Road for additional educational cottages, and purchasing land on Glenview for our Worship Center and Cornerstone Buildings. The 15th Anniversary in May 1971 was celebrated with an open air worship service on the concrete foundation of our current 1,200 seat auditorium. Groundbreaking for the 42,000 square foot Family Life Center was held in 1989. NRHBC purchased the former bank building property on Highway 26 to secure additional parking, and a new 70,000 square foot Preschool Children’s Ministry Building was completed in March 2000.

Throughout the years, ministry has extended beyond this location with Club Jesus apartment ministries, mission churches and mission trips, a 24-hour Prayer Chapel and Watchman Prayer Ministry, Cornerstone Assistance Network, Cornerstone Counseling Center, Operation Touch Vacation Bible Schools, and other outreach opportunities. Continuing the process of sending members to establish a new mission, in the Fall of 1985, NRHBC planted a church on the northern boundary of NRH, pastored by Bob Roberts, now known as North Wood Church for the Communities.

Five Senior Pastors have served NRHBC over the past 45 years, providing vision and leadership: James E. Hester (February 1956 - April 1959), W. Hal Brooks (July 1959 - June 1983), Phillip E. Simmons (January 1984 - January 1994), L. Joe McKinney (August 1994 - July 1997) and Tommy W. Teague (since August 1998).

Because the strength of a church is really the people of God, not the places they meet, we are blessed with our community of believers at NRHBC...on their journey of transformation...connecting others with Christ.

Q. What is the story of the stained glass windows inside the Worship Center?
A.

The stained glass mosaic windows displayed inside the Worship Center were constructed by church members, after two companies said the angles of the windows would be very difficult to make and the minimum bid was $12,000. Instead, the congregation rose to the challenge, using scrap glass from a local glass company that was sorted by color.  Symbolically, this provides an illustration of what Christ does in the lives of believers, taking something “worthless” and making a beautiful new creation.

The first window is representative of John 1, “in the beginning was the Word...” symbolizing the Creation.  The second window with the paschal lamb on a flaming altar represents the Old Testament prophesy of the coming Jesus Christ.  The third, with it's bright star over a town skyline, represents the birth of Jesus at Bethlehem and the star which led the shepherds and wise men to the manger. The center window, which fit perfectly into the baptistry area, depicts the beginning of Jesus' ministry when He was baptized by John the Baptist. It is symbolized by a dove.  The fifth window depicts the miracles of Christ as represented by the feeding of the 5,000 at Galilee, the only miracle recorded in all four gospels. The sixth window reflects the death, burial, and resurrection of Christ, pictured by an empty tomb and empty cross. The last window takes its text from Revelations and depicts the second coming of Christ in a cloud of glory.

Our Beliefs

What does NRHBC believe?

Q. What does NRHBC believe?
A. Our Foundational Truths:

God is the all knowing, all powerful, ever present creator of the universe.

  • God is  the one and only true and living God
  • God eternally exists in three inseparable persons; Father, Son and Holy Spirit, distinct in function, yet equal in substance.
  • God's character consists of attributes both unshared with his creation, such as his eternal nature and shared with his creation, such as mercy.
  • God is deserving of creation’s worship and obedience.  All creation is totally dependent upon Him.

Jesus is the Son of God, Savior of man, and Lord of all.

  • Jesus is fully man, yet has a sinless nature and lived a sinless life.
  • Jesus is fully eternal God, yet humbled himself in obedience to the Father.
  • Jesus demonstrated His obedience to the Father and love for mankind by dying on the cross, bearing the wrath of the Father against sinful man.
  • Jesus rose bodily from the grave and ascended to the right hand of the Father where He intercedes for His own.
  • Jesus will return to redeem the church and execute final judgment.

The Holy Spirit manifests God’s active presence in the world.

  • The Holy Spirit secures every Christian until Christ returns.
  • The Holy Spirit empowers for service.
  • The Holy Spirit convicts and purifies of sin.
  • The Holy Spirit illuminates God’s will to His people and is always verified through scripture.

People are created in God’s image and for His glory, but are separated from God by their sin.

  • People are the crowning work of God’s creation and are designed to enjoy a relationship with Him.
  • People are born with a sin nature as a result of Adam’s sin, and are born into an environment inclined toward sin.
  • People are unable to escape the wrath of God on their own.
  • People’s inherited sin nature brings physical death, spiritual condemnation and eternal judgment in hell.

Salvation is a free gift from God that cannot be earned.

  • Salvation requires repentance of sin through the conviction of the Holy Spirit.
  • Salvation begins with the confession of Christ alone as Lord, and belief in His death and resurrection.
  • Salvation is the ongoing surrender of one’s life to the Holy Spirit.
  • Salvation comes to fruition in the eternal dwelling with God.

The Bible is the written word of God, testifying to the living word of God, Jesus Christ.

  • The Bible is inspired by the Holy Spirit and was written by men.
  • The Bible is authoritative as God’s revelation.
  • The Bible is sufficient for all matters of belief and behavior.
  • The Bible is accurate when it is true to its original writing.

The Church is God’s people, partnering in God’s redemptive mission.

  • The Church is discipleship pursued in Christian community.
  • The Church is the visible and verbal expression of the gospel in the world.
  • The Church is governed by Christ and practices the ordinances of baptism and the Lord’s Supper.
  • The Church is the body of Christ expressed as local congregations and as a universal community.

The Great Commission is the responsibility of all believers to share their faith with others.

  • The Great Commission is about making disciples, which is the full commitment of one’s life to Christ.
  • The Great Commission is empowered by the Holy Spirit.
  • The Great Commission is to be followed locally, regionally, and globally.

Preschool

What can I expect when my child is to be a guest of Kid Connection?

Q. What can I expect when my child is to be a guest of Kid Connection?
A. Planning A Visit To Kid Connection?

Label all your child's belongings before you leave them.

Fill out a Guest Registration form at one of our Welcome Centers, or at the Preschool Registration desk, first floor of the Children's Ministry Building.

A greeter will be more than happy to help you find the right class. Please don't hesitate to ask for directions, information or other assistance!

Parents of preschoolers are asked to sign in at the appropriate classroom. All preschool guests receive a Preschool Guest security ID card and guest number. The card will be worn during all preschool sessions. Parents receive an identical card, bearing the same number. In the event parents are needed in the preschool area, the guest number will appear on the digital display system located in the Worship Center. If parents are attending a class, our Minister to Preschool or other preschool staff will locate them. Parents must present the "matching" ID card in order to pick up a child.

Feel free to check on your little one at any time during the morning. We ask that you do so discreetly, using the one way windows, so your child and others won't be upset.

V.I.P - Parent volunteers and others teach and nurture our children birth - 3 years at the 10:45 session. V.I.P. is an extension of Kid Connection - but is not designed to take the place of regular Sunday morning Bible study. Your young children will benefit most by coming to Kid Connection for a fun Bible learning time, then enjoying care from loving adults during V.I.P.

If you have more questions, feel free to ask a greeter or the Preschool Minister on Sunday morning or give us a call Monday - Thursday at 817.284.9206.
