The instrumental ensemble serves in a number of ways here at NRHBC. Comprised of talented volunteer musicians from within church, it's members provide music for Sunday morning worship gatherings as well as many special musical performances both within the church walls and out in the local community. The group is made up of musicians in two main areas - rhythm section and winds. The rhythm section uses drums, percussion, keyboards, guitars and bass. They serve as the core group for the 9:15 and 10:45 worship services. Our winds are made up of woodwind and brass players of all instruments that add to our rhythm section to enhance their music with more of an orchestral sound. The total instrumental ensemble group also functions in many spin-off groups to provide music for performance opportunities that arise. Some of these are:
Jazz Band - playing big band jazz from the 1930's up through today's Christian big band tunes.
Jazz/rock combo - playing everything from jazz to dixieland and all areas in between.
Small ensembles - vary from woodwind quintets to full brass band
The instrumental ensemble has been blessed in the past with invitations to play in many events including other church's worship services, local community events, a church instrumental music conference, and mission trips to Scotland, Canada, and Buenos Aires. God has blessed us with incredible musicians with not only extraordinary musical talent but a heart to serve the Lord with these gifts. Membership is open to adult church members by audition through the music office. Prior experience is required, as we do not teach music classes at the beginner level. Wind instrumentalist should be capable of playing in 4 sharps to 4 flats and have strong sight reading skills.
