The students had a lot of fun, but more importantly, they matured spiritually. The emphasis for the weekend was on having “one” faith and letting God be number “one” in their lives. Students came away from the weekend saying, “I've grown closer to God,” and, “I want to share Christ more with my friends.” Simple, but big steps for our students. Continue to pray with us for God’s work in their lives. ]]> Thu, 02 Feb 2012 23:49:18 GMT Announcements http://www.nrhbc.org/content.cfm?id=133&content_id=334 Announcement: Buenos Aires Mission http://www.nrhbc.org/content.cfm?id=133&content_id=368 Our missions construction trip to Buenos Aires was one of the hardest physical efforts we have attempted and one of the most spiritually rewarding. During our trip, we had days of 102 degrees, where we worked 10-12.5 hours straight.

A team of eight went in January to finish construction efforts on a 100-year-old church building that is being used for impactful, ongoing ministry and for NRHBC outreach efforts. Those who went were: Wayne Graham, Daryl King, Barry Tiedt, Ted Ulmer, Wallace Hearne, Joey and Jenny Soule and our IMB missionary, Manuel Sosa.

Our primary goal was not to finish the task, but to glorify our Lord. We asked the Lord to allow us to bring him glory in all we did. He was more than faithful to encourage our glory-giving by helping us complete more than we thought we could.

The group committed to seek the Lord's direction before we started, as we worked, and when we crossed a completion milestone. Every day we asked the Lord to help us do the work. As specific needs arose, we would stop and pray for God to deliver an answer or solution. All through the day we audibly and loudly gave shouts of praise as we saw God meet us at our points of need.

One example went like this. As two from the group were purchasing our initial supplies, it was evident transporting would be a big problem. So, the guys called and let the rest of us know. We stopped and prayed. We learned later that soon after we prayed, a man walked up to the two and asked, “Do ya'll need some help hauling this stuff?” This type of answered prayers happened time and time again. God was so good.

Our team ...
  • painted four rooms;
  • installed a suspended ceiling in the bathroom;
  • replaced wood in 20 percent of one floor and painted the entire floor;
  • put baseboards in two rooms;
  • built a loft in the dining room (ceilings are 14 feet high) and put in paneling;
  • built a kitchen counter top and installed a new sink and faucet set;
  • tiled the walls of kitchen area;
  • busted out concrete and ran a new sewer system for two new enlarged bathrooms, that included sinks, toilets and showers;
  • rewired the bathrooms and the dining room/kitchen;
  • re-plumbed the incoming water line to the storage tank, by-passing leaking pipes in the walls; and
  • re-plumbed the water distribution and added a new flash water heater.
Our Lord was so good to us. Dr. Gene Getz is a graduate of Moody Bible Institute and earned advanced degrees from Wheaton Graduate School and New York University. He served as a professor at Moody and Dallas Theological Seminary and then became a church planting pastor, launching the Fellowship Bible Church movement.
